The day before.
Clear the room as far as you can: small furniture, ornaments, lamps and anything breakable. If moving heavy items or lifting the old floor has been agreed as part of the job, leave those to the fitters.
Unplug and move electrical items, take down long curtains and make sure there is a clear route from the front door.
- Room cleared of small items and breakables.
- Old floor uplift agreed, or removed as arranged.
- Doors that may need trimming identified.
- Parking or access arranged for the fitters’ van.
On the day.
Keep pets and children out of the room while the fitters work. Expect some noise from stretching carpet or cutting boards. Doors may need trimming to clear a thicker floor; ask about this when you book.
Once the floor is down, the fitters will tidy up and leave any useful off-cuts with you.
Afterwards.
Vacuum new carpet as normal; loose fibres in the first few weeks are usual. Allow a laminate or wood floor to settle before placing heavy furniture, and use felt pads on chair and table legs.
Keep the range name and care leaflet with your paperwork so you have the right advice if anything is spilled later.
