Ask about a measureArrange a proper measure
Room shape, stair layout, roll width, joins and pile direction all affect the amount of flooring needed. Discuss an assessment of the existing floor too.

You don’t need a laser or a tape measure the length of the house. For a first conversation and a rough price, this is plenty. We measure properly before anything is ordered.
- Measure the longest length of the room, wall to wall, including any door recess.
- Measure the widest width, going into any bay window or alcove.
- Note which way the windows and doors face so we can plan pile direction and joins.
- For stairs, count the steps and tell us about any winders, half-landings or open sides.
- Tell us what is there now: boards, concrete, tiles, old carpet, and whether the underlay is worth keeping.
Carpet and sheet vinyl usually come on 4-metre or 5-metre rolls, so the room shape decides how much you need and where any join goes. That is why a proper measure matters.
Write down A and B in metres, plus a note of any awkward shapes. A photograph of the room helps too. Pop the numbers into the room planner and it will total the area and show how the room sits on a roll.

Most single rooms are done in a few hours. Stairs, whole houses and floors that need preparation take longer, and we will tell you what to expect when we measure.
Our fitting-day checklist- Clear small furniture, ornaments and anything breakable.
- Old floor uplifted as agreed, or left for the fitters.
- Doors that may need trimming identified in advance.
- Pets and children out of the room while work is under way.
- Off-cuts, care leaflet and paperwork left with you.
Measuring and fitting questions
Do I need exact measurements to make an enquiry?
No. Your postcode, the rooms involved and approximate dimensions are enough to start a conversation. Final quantities should be confirmed through a proper measure.
Is furniture moving or old-floor disposal included?
Please discuss these arrangements and any costs before booking. They are not assumed to be included, and the requirements vary from room to room.
