Visiting the shop

Where are you now?

Pendle Carpets moved from Chatburn to Whalley Industrial Park in Barrow, Clitheroe, BB7 9WP, in April 2025. Some older listings still show the Chatburn address; please use Barrow.

What are your opening hours?

Please call 01200 440744 before travelling to confirm current opening hours. We would rather you checked than had a wasted journey.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Call in during opening hours and browse the samples. If you would like a longer chat about a big job, a quick call beforehand means we can set aside the time.

Can I take samples home?

Yes. Colours look different in every room and under every light, so we encourage you to take a few favourites home and look at them in the room itself.

Choosing a floor

Where do I start?

With the room. How it is used, who uses it and what it opens onto matter more than the colour at first. Our floor finder asks three quick questions and points you to sensible starting points.

Is wool better than synthetic carpet?

They suit different needs. Wool offers natural texture, resilience and warmth; good synthetic ranges make everyday stain care simpler and are often better value. Compare feel, care and the fitted cost together.

Which carpet is best for stairs?

A dense twist pile with a heavy-domestic usage rating, fitted over a firm underlay. Thick and soft is not the same as hard-wearing on a staircase.

What about pets?

Choose a cut pile rather than a loop, which claws can catch. Heathered colours hide hair and marks, and some synthetic ranges have specific stain-cleaning benefits. Ask about the care instructions for the exact carpet.

Can I see what a floor looks like in a room?

Our inspiration page shows credited manufacturer room photographs and real samples from the shop. Nothing beats a sample in your own room, though.

Measuring, quotes & fitting

Do you measure at home?

Yes. We offer a no-obligation home measure for rooms, stairs and landings. Call the shop to arrange a convenient time.

Do I need exact measurements to get a quote?

No. Your postcode, the rooms involved and rough dimensions are enough to start. We confirm quantities with a proper measure before anything is ordered.

Is fitting included?

Fitting is arranged through the shop and quoted as part of the job, so you get one clear price for the finished floor. Uplift of the old floor, moving furniture and disposal are discussed when you book.

How long does fitting take?

Most single rooms are fitted in a few hours; a whole house, stairs or a floor needing preparation takes longer. We will give you a realistic idea when we measure.

How soon can it be fitted?

It depends on the range, availability and the fitting diary. Roll stock can often be fitted quickly; ordered ranges take longer. Ask when you enquire.

Can I get an instant price online?

A fitted quote depends on the material, quantity, subfloor and fitting details, so we do not publish prices online. Contact us and we will quote for the whole job.

Looking after your floor

How do I deal with a spill on carpet?

Act quickly. Lift solids, blot liquid with a clean cloth and avoid rubbing. Then follow the manufacturer’s stain guide for the fibre. Never assume a carpet is bleach-cleanable unless its care guide says so.

How do I clean vinyl or laminate?

Sweep or vacuum grit first, then use the maker’s recommended cleaner with a well-wrung mop. Avoid standing water, abrasive pads and steam unless the manufacturer allows it.

Why does my new carpet shed fibres?

Cut-pile carpets, especially wool, shed loose fibres for the first few weeks. It is normal and reduces with regular vacuuming.

Can I use a robot vacuum?

Usually, yes, on most carpets and hard floors. Check the brush type suits your pile and keep the wheels clean so they do not mark hard floors.
