Types of wood & laminate

Real wood

Individual grain and natural variation give every floor its own character. Engineered and solid wood have different constructions; the room and subfloor help determine the right choice.

Laminate

A decorative surface creates a wood or stone look. Compare surface texture, wear rating and the manufacturer’s room guidance as well as colour.

Plank, tone & layout

A wide pale plank feels different from a narrow, darker board. Look at a larger sample and consider how the floor will meet adjoining rooms and doorways.

Common questions

Is laminate the same as engineered wood?

No. Engineered wood has a real wood surface over a layered construction. Laminate uses a decorative layer to create its appearance. Their feel, care and installation requirements differ.

Can I put wood or laminate in a bathroom?

A generic recommendation is not enough for a wet room. Only consider a specific range with explicit manufacturer approval and the required installation details. Suitable vinyl is another starting point to discuss.

Will the colour be completely uniform?

Natural wood varies between boards. Laminate also uses repeated decorative designs with intentional variation. View several samples or boards to understand the overall effect.

Can it work with underfloor heating?

Compatibility depends on the exact floor, heating system and underlay. Provide the heating specification so the manufacturer’s limits can be checked.
